Frequently asked questions
Most popular FAQs
We anticipate to answer all the questions you may have. If you have any further questions or thoughts please email or call the practice.
What can be treated?
Invisalign can be used to correct bite issues such as overbite, underbite, crowding, crossbite and excessive spacing, affecting your smile. The way in which your top and bottom teeth meet can have an impact on how well you chew your food and clean your teeth. Therefore depending on the severity of your bite issue, we may recommend one of many Invisalign treatments. On consultation, these alternatives as well as suitability will be discussed.
Is the Invisalign treatment painful?
Invisalign aligners are custom made and fitted for each patient. Some experience minor discomfort, however this is normal and any discomfort usually goes away within a couple of days of inserting the new aligner. OTC pain medication can offer relief from any strong pain that might occur in rare cases.
Some people may find their speech slightly affected after getting Invisalign. This uncommon side-effect goes away quickly once their mouth adjusts to the Invisalign aligners.
How much does Invisalign cost?
The cost of Invisalign treatment will be tailored to your individual needs.
Following your consultation, you will receive a comprehensive quote detailing all anticipated costs before proceeding. You will therefore be completely aware of fees for all treatment, appointments and aligners for the duration of your Invisalign experience.
Who provides treatment with Invisalign?
At Northwick Park the treatment will be carried out by one of our registered specialist orthodontists with sufficient Invisalign training. They will assess your suitability for Invisalign and perform your treatment. You can have complete confidence in the care you receive and the final outcome.
How often do the aligners have to be worn?
Aligners should be worn all the time – day and night – with the exception of when you remove them to eat, brush and floss your teeth.
I’ve had orthodontic treatment before and don’t like how my teeth look. Can I still have Invisalign?
Yes. Most people who have had orthodontic treatment and are not completely happy are eligible for Invisalign treatment. In many cases the treatment is shorter and cheaper.
How often must I see my orthodontist during Invisalign treatment?
You will need to visit your orthodontist every six to eight weeks for a progress review and to collect your next set of aligners. The cost of these appointments is included in your treatment plan.
What happens if I lose my aligners?
Replacement aligners can be purchased. Please contact reception for further details and costs.
Are there restrictions on what I can eat during the treatment?
Not at all. Because you remove the aligners to eat, you can eat whatever you like. We do recommend you brush and floss your teeth after each meal before reinserting the aligners.
Will Invisalign affect my speech?
The vast majority of patients report no effect at all on their speech. However, as with traditional orthodontic appliances, having something new in your mouth brings an initial adjustment period.
